Originally mandated by Congress in 2004 to collect homeless data, HMIS has since expanded to also include prevention data, as well as a variety of other funding/program types, including, but not limited to; the VA (United States Department of Veterans Affairs), VASH (Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing), SSVF (Supportive Services for Veteran Families), State & Local programs/grants, ESG (Emergency Solutions Grants - formerly "Emergency Shelter Grants"), CoC (formerly SHP), HCV (formerly Section 8), RAP, HOME, SSI/SSDI Outreach Access & Recovery (SOAR), HEARTH, Private Grants (United Way, etc.), etc.
